A man suspected of planning an assassination attempt on Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk and his defence minister has been detained, BBC News and The Guardian reported on Sunday. According to the BBC, police had received credible information about possible attacks on the two officials.
Tusk himself announced the detention on X. “The man threatening an attack has been detained,” he wrote, according to The Guardian, and praised the police for their “swift and decisive action”.
Russian state agency TASS adds details that the independent outlets do not confirm. It says the man also sent e-mails with threats to Defence Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz. TASS also quotes Jacek Dobrzynski, described as an intelligence agency spokesman, as calling the threat “extremely serious” and saying there was a high probability it would be carried out.
